DL Brochure / Folding Flyer for Alpha Packaging

W

hen designing marketing for a packaging company, clarity and impact need to work harder than ever. Alpha Packaging came to us needing a DL brochure that could showcase their extensive product range, stay consistent with their brand style guide, and support their evolving pricing structure.

The challenge? Creating something that sells without looking salesy, and stands out in a literal sea of marketing material on trade counters and shelves.

The Story of Alpha Packaging

Alpha Packaging is a leading supplier of commercial and retail packaging on the Sunshine Coast, offering everything from biodegradable solutions to fully customised branded options. Their catalogue moves quickly: new products roll in, prices shift with the market, and customers rely on easy access to the right information. When they reached out to Visual Targets, they needed a brochure that could:

  • Reflect their existing brand identity
  • Present their major product categories clearly
  • Stay adaptable in a field where prices change rapidly
  • Support their website as the main up-to-date source

The challenges and opportunities

Creating a DL brochure that sells without relying on pricing

Pricing in the packaging industry can shift week to week. Instead of including numbers that might go out of date, we leaned into a sales-flow structure: walking customers through what Alpha offers, why it matters, and where to go next.

A prominently placed QR code became the linchpin. It directs customers straight to the website for the latest updates, keeping the brochure relevant long-term and supporting a tighter digital ecosystem.

Working within an existing brand style guide

Alpha Packaging already had a distinctive look, including their signature orange palette, angled shapes, and product patterns. We followed their style guide closely — colour blocks, icon styles, logo positioning — ensuring the brochure felt perfectly aligned with their broader marketing.

Consistency is crucial in retail environments: customers recognise brands first by colour and shape before they ever read a word.

Balancing visual flow across six panels

A DL brochure folds three ways, which means pacing matters.

We designed the outer panels to immediately grab attention using strong orange sections and bold contrast.

The inner panels follow a clean 2/3 orange to 1/3 white structure — an intentional layout that guides the eye through product categories without overwhelming the reader.

The cover cleverly reverses this ratio to create contrast and punch. This is where design theory quietly does its job in the background.

Highlighting biodegradable and custom-branded options

  • These offerings are major selling points in today’s market, so their icons needed extra visual emphasis.
  • We gave them space to breathe, making sure they stood out without overpowering the rest of the layout.

Building subtle background interest with product illustrations

  • Beyond the main service icons, we incorporated gentle background illustrations and product silhouettes to add depth without noise.
  • They helped give the DL brochure a clean, modern and textured look whilst still allowing the eye to navigate around other details.

Making product photos work harder

Because Alpha supplied high-quality product images, we could remove backgrounds and showcase items cleanly. This made the brochure look more professional than using full-background photography and gave the layout consistency from start to finish.

Refining and confirming the product panels

  • We reviewed the client’s website to identify the major product groups, then confirmed via email which ones they wanted to feature.

Because products can change often, we kept the copy light and focused on recognisable categories; the brochure’s job is to preview, not to overwhelm.

The results

Alpha Packaging was thrilled with the final result.

Here’s what Karen had to say in her Google review of our services:
